The style that emerges in Em’s work bursts with contrasting energy amongst gentle patches of softness as she combines colour and intriguing textures with her imaginative and abstract landscapes. Her figures and wildlife are abstracted and full of energy.

“My contemporary oil paintings are a fusion of atmosphere, experiment and memory. Using the landscape around me, I draw upon memories of a time and an emotion to overlay into the overall sense of place. Through atmospheric effects and whatever tool will enable me to portray my vision in unusual ways, I want to capture the connectivity and the beauty of nature and the calming influence that it can bring to the soul. Simultaneously, I’m thinking about colours, contrast and composition and how to create movement and texture in my work.

I want my work to leave viewers with deep stillness and peace, allowing them to pause a while and breathe.”

Why I paint…

“As an artist, I find myself standing at the top of a waterfall, arms outstretched, embracing the sheer power of Mother Nature. It’s the powerful moments that leave me breathless, whether it’s a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds or the graceful swoop of an owl at dusk. My art is a reflection of these shared experiences, a burst of vibrant colors that capture the intensity of emotions.

And when tranquility takes hold, I layer glazing to evoke a sense of calm that is truly indescribable. But these emotions aren’t meant to be kept hidden; they’re meant to be shared. After every tumultuous storm, there is rebirth and a breath of renewal.”
