If you love big skies then you will love Shetland. The landscape is spectacular and around every corner is another microclimate that you weren’t fully prepared for. Soft moss covered hills rise out of the sea, waves crashing against their rocky feet and meeting the most immense sky that you have ever seen.
Purples and lavenders will run through this palette, with a shot of gold and framed with desaturated blue
Every hour, the weather and the sky is different on Shetland. You might wake up to cloud, fog or rain in the morning but the view outside the window will always be spectacular and you never know, come 3 o’clock the waves might still themselves and the sun calm the racing clouds in the sky.
Shetland is a place to be inspired, especially if you are a landscape artist. I read in the wonderful Shetland museum in Lerwick that a lot of work has gone into creating Shetland into a brand in its own right; certainly ponies and jumpers are everywhere; but there’s also the Shetland Soap Company supporting adults with learning difficulties and creating beautiful soaps that smell of the sea, the heather and nature. Each soap taking on a distinct hue of the Shetland colour palette.
